Perhaps few jazz musicians are as free as Tyshawn Sorey, capable of the most surprising explorations of timbre and space and the most experimental and contemporary projects, while leading one of today’s most balanced piano, bass and drums trios. Sorey, whose origins are very humble, and whose father bought him a drum kit on condition that he would play it “at all hours”, has joined the list of musicians exploring the American jazz songbook.
