PROGRAMME
Few works are more passionate and musically fascinating than Bizet’s Carmen. The plot depicts the excesses of love with Spanish motifs, which were wildly exotic for the French mentality of the time. In the version performed by the Barcelona Symphonic Band, these motifs enhance the impact of the piece, even if they do not follow the narrative of the story.
This suite – a compilation of some of the most attractive themes and passages – will be preceded by Cap Kennedy, a work in eleven episodes that Serge Lancen dedicated to the Apollo 11 astronauts. The concert also includes Reflets for alto saxophone and wind orchestra, with Vincent David, the composer, as the soloist.
