PROGRAMME
Before the concert, Jordi Oriol and the Indi Gest company will introduce the work by means of a dramatised presentation explaining its context, in a free, creative format.
Defined as a “one-act pantomime ballet”, Béla Bartók’s The Miraculous Mandarin blends the composer’s passion for folklore with the creation of new languages, producing a rich display of colour and rhythm. After its scandalous premiere in Cologne in 1926, the work was banned in Germany.
Today, however, it is considered one of Bartók’s most representative works, the fruit of his musical imagination. The work will be introduced by Jordi Oriol with a dramatised presentation by the Indi Gest theatre company, highlighting the Hungarian composer’s visionary character.
