Video-report on TV3 Akan Choir
Duration: 30 min

"The world changes with concert  such as this evening. Perhaps it will not change for you, but for your children or grandchildren." (Luisa, president of the Akan Association.)

Akan Choir consists of immigrants in precarious situations. The association of the same name in Gerona gives them shelter and financial and emotional support and also orient them in everything they can. Important elements of integration are the Catalan classes, where they came up with the idea of organizing a weekly meeting to sing.

In this case, music has been one of the engines of their fast adaptation to Catalonia and Catalan language. Singing, the universal language that unites people and helps sharing universal emotions. As they say in one of the songs from their concert, "Sometimes we make it."

Among the repertoire, there are stylish and modern songs by Manel, Sopa de Cabra, Lax'n'Busto... sung in Catalan for newcomers eager to be part of Catalan society, to be taken into account and to feel like a citizen more.
